Vein Therapy

Aesthetic Center offers customized treatment for both reticular veins and telangiectasias, more commonly known as spider veins. Our treatments are performed by highly trained Physician Assistants who have significant experience combining both sclerotherapy and laser treatment for optimal results.

Reticular Veins

Sometimes referred to as ‘blue veins’, reticular veins occur below the skin in common areas including the inner thighs back of the legs and around the ankles. Reticular veins can form in a cluster and may cause symptoms of pain or discomfort. These veins, since below the surface, may only be seen with a vein light. Reticular veins may function as ‘feeder veins’ causing the formation of spider veins, so diagnosis is important prior to treating spider veins.

Telangiectasias (spider veins)

Spider veins are small, thin veins that lie close to the skin. These veins form clusters that can be red, blue or purple in color appearing most often on thighs, calves and ankles. It is possible for the appearance of veins to be accompanied by aching, burning, swelling and night cramps. Spider veins can result from heredity, medication, weight gain, prolonged sitting or standing, pregnancy and other hormonal shifts.

Vein Treatment

A successful treatment program requires treating both the reticular and telangiectasias, since spider veins will not respond well to treatment until the reticular veins are addressed.

Sclerotherapy

During this treatment, the skin will be stretched taught and our Physician Assistants will use a tiny needle to inject a sclerosing solution directly into the vein. The sclerotherapy causes the treated vein to close over time and the blood is re-routed through other healthy veins, improving circulation. As the vein closes, it is absorbed into surrounding tissue and fades in appearance. Treatment programs depend on the number and intensity of the veins, but we typically recommend a series of 2-3 treatment sessions.  Our Physician Assistants are often able to complete each session in one office visit, unlike other offices that require a series of multiple weekly treatments.  Our sclerosing agent is painless and injected in a ‘foam’ form, which has been clinically shown to optimize results.

Laser Therapy

Laser vein therapy is virtually painless and effectively treats small spider veins. Our Physician Assistants use a laser that emits controlled pulses of light to the targeted area of veins. The light from the laser is absorbed by the red blood cells in the spider vein and causes the vein to be damaged. The damaged veins ultimately collapse and are re-absorbed by the body.

Through a combined treatment program of sclerotherapy and laser therapy, the deep colored veins that were once unpleasant will fade in appearance, and the symptoms of discomfort will fade.
